Apple iPhone launch are never smooth or we can say that Apple ensures there are few controversies coming up so as to get the attention of the entire global about the latest iPhone’s launch.
Apple addressing ‘BeautyGate’ iPhone XS skin smoothing in iOS 12.1
Something similar happened this year as well. We saw people complaining about one or the other thing right from the day of launch of the new iPhone Xs and Xs Max. For example, ChargeGate and BeautyGate. While, it’s been a month everyone is talking about these issues, Apple has nothing so say.
But reporters at The Verge, did go through the details and algorithm of the new upcoming iOS 12.1, where Apple is trying to fix the issue. Though there are no official words from the company about the issue but they have started working on it.
Here’s the full explanation, via The Verge:
Essentially, Smart HDR was choosing the wrong base frame for HDR processing when you took a selfie. Instead of choosing a frame with a short shutter speed to freeze motion and preserve detail, it would sometimes choose a frame with longer shutter speed. The front camera also does not have optical image stabilization, so it takes blurrier shots at the same shutter speed as the rear, stabilized camera. The result is a loss of detail that looks like smoothing on the front camera.
iOS 12.1 which we had reported recently is about to be launched officially. We can expect iOS 12.1 to hit the light of the day sometime soon, early next month or shipping along with the new 2018 iPad Pro.
So, the new iPhone Xs, Xs Max and Xr feature a new Smart HDR, which was edited by Apple a little in order to ensure that the front camera always produced satisfying results and people love the images when they see themselves a little more beautiful. But something total opposite took place, as people did not like that feature and the entire controversy was named as BeautyGate.
The upcoming iPhone Xr ships with iOS 12.0.1 which did also have the same algorithms due to which all the reviewers all around the globe are liking the iPhone very much but did mention BeautyGate in their reviews.
But finally we have updates, which means Apple is working on to ensure that the issues is resolved with the upcoming iOS 12.1. Apple will be editing the coding on the Smart HDR Mode to resolve the same. It is very interesting that Apple is able to resolve issues and controversies by a small Software Update.
So, the upcoming iOS 12.1 which is currently in Beta Testing shall help us and all the users of iPhone Xs, Xs Max and Xr around the globe to have a more real looking selfies.
